Celebrate your Diwali at SEVALAYA

On the dawn of Diwali, the impatient children who have no interest in oil bath or even new dress, hustle up to the road or terrace, to burst crackers. Crackers when ignited burst with lot of excitement. But they exist for a very short moment. So does the sensory, mental, emotional excitements do!

Every thing that begins has to come to an end. This stands good for sense pleasures and with all kinds of celebrations. This is the loud and bright message of Diwali. On the eve of Diwali and next night, if you just walk up to the terrace and look into the sky or look in any direction your eyes will behold the beautiful formations that the crackers burst and form. But these are momentary.

When you try to light up a cracker, there is tremendous excitement in the act, it is an electrifying experience as the fire hisses and enters the cracker. The moment you wait for the action to begin and how suddenly before you  realize the cracker bursts into colors and even before you feel you have enjoyed it, it is already over. It stimulates you with a desire to enjoy  more and leaves you with a feeling of dissatisfaction. This is exactly how we participate in the sensory experiences of life.

The most profound message of Diwali, is see the limitations and the temporariness of these pleasures. Use this precious life to do some thing that will make someone happy, help someone to enjoy life. Derive pleasure in making the weak and destitute to be happy.

Diwali is a time when you remove the darkness of selfishness and illumine it with an act of giving, with  an emotion of compassion.

We have teamed up with several organizations this year to make our Diwali a memorable and uplifting experience. One of them is SEVALAYA. Below we are including the appeal of SEVALAYA.

Diwali (the festival of Lights), one of the major festivals of India symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. As the festival approaches, there is a lot of celebration in the air, with people busily planning for the purchase of new clothes, sweets, savories and all the shops are flooded with new and novel varieties of clothes, sweets and of course crackers, to woo the people and make the occasion a memorable one!

As donors and friends of Sevalaya (www.sevalaya.org), we are sure that you have included your extended family of Sevalaya also in the preparation of your Diwali celebrations. This extended family has 2000 poor, destitute village children and 65 poor and destitute grandpas and grandmas. These children are getting completely free education and doing very well in studies. Many of our students who completed school education have taken up higher studies and many of them are fully supported by Sevalaya. The grandmas and grandpas as well as the residents of the Children’s Home which houses orphan and destitute children are given tasty, healthy and nourishing food, proper medical attention, love and affection.

We estimate at least Rs.1000 as the expense for one person and we need support from all of you to have a great Diwali for the 2065 people in the Sevalaya family. We are sure that as in the previous years, we will get your support. With all your unstinting support, the evils of poverty and destitution which plagued these 2065 residents are being successfully overcome. We invite you to join hands and help us celebrate this victory on the auspicious day of Diwali!

Diwali !A Festival of giving Love and Light to all!

Diwali is a festival that lightens up Indian skies as well as families! The joy of shopping and gifting for Diwali is such an enjoyable experience, that families in India look forward every year. Be it the delicious sweet meats or the piping hot bajjis, idli's with hot small onion sambar! You can't miss the special diwali marundhu! We are so fortunate to be born in such a rich culture which is full of celebrations!

But not all of us are fortunate to enjoy the warmth of an oil bath or a new dress, delicious food , sweets , crackers and the presences of  our loved ones round.

At Satyananda Yoga Centre, we thought of lighting up someone's life this Diwali!
